Installation - Light sculptures

Friday Oct 13th – Sunday Oct 15th

from 6pm each day

Colet House

Synthaesis will present Breathing Space, an interactive light sculpture which accompanies a series of live contemporary performances by pianist Nicolas Horvath and cellist Rosa Bugarin. Around the room, liquid shapes and light projections are shaped directly by the breathing patterns of a quartet of audience members.

A number of audience members will take turn to sit in deckchairs, and their breathing will affect the colour and movement of the light projected on each of many screens. In this way we will hear music and see an orchestra of breathing responses across the space. As we listen to the music, we watch as its effect on the audience fills the space.

Jean Catoire (1923-2005)
Centenary

Wednesday Oct 18th 7.30pm

St Cuthberts Church

Jean Catoire stands as a unique figure in twentieth century music. Working in isolation and without recognition for most of his creative life, producing giant pieces of music that are deeply meditative.

If anything in music can be described as ‘archetypal’, it is Catoire’s works. Inherent in its structure is a profound sacred geometry as the music unfolds in its permutations of the basic materials.
